High-Performance Filter Bags: The Markert Solution

Industrial processing demands precision. Whether you are refining sugar, processing alumina, or manufacturing pharmaceuticals, the efficiency of your operation often hinges on one critical step: filtration. The equipment is only as good as the media inside it. This is where high-performance filter bags make the difference between a smooth operation and costly downtime.

A filter bag is a precision-engineered tool designed to separate solids from liquids under intense pressure and heat. Choosing the wrong bag leads to product loss, frequent changes, and wet filter cakes.

Explore how Markert filter bags are engineered to withstand high mechanical stress, ensure fast cake drying, and deliver optimal separation behavior for the most demanding industries.

What is a Filter Bag?

A filter bag is a permeable fabric barrier used in various filtration systems, such as backflush filters, centrifuges, and disc filters. Its primary job is mechanical separation. As a slurry or liquid stream enters the system, the bag captures solid particles while allowing the clean liquid (filtrate) to pass through.

For facility managers and process engineers, the performance of this bag directly impacts:

  • Filtrate Clarity: How pure the resulting liquid is.
  • Cake Dryness: How much moisture is removed from the solids.
  • Throughput: The volume of product processed per hour.

Markert designs these bags to handle specific chemical and mechanical stresses, ensuring your filtration process remains continuous, reliable, and cost-effective.

The Markert Advantage: Engineered for Efficiency

Generic filtration media often fail to meet the rigorous demands of modern industry. Markert filter bags are manufactured for a diverse range of systems, including Diastar filters, centrifuges, and disc filters. We engineer our solutions to provide durability and performance that generic options cannot match.

Our approach combines advanced materials with precision manufacturing techniques, such as the use of sewing robots. This ensures a constant, perfect fit every time. By customizing the bag to the application, we deliver outstanding performance across several key metrics.

1. Superior Fit and Finish

Ill-fitting bags cause leaks and bypass. We use sewing robots to produce bags for systems like Diastar filters. This guarantees a precise fit, which is crucial for maintaining high throughput and filtrate clarity.

2. High Throughput

Clogging slows down production. Our designs feature high-flow characteristics that prevent blinding. For example, our Diastar filter bags utilize a multi-channel design (3 to 8 channels) to maximize surface area and flow, keeping your operation moving at speed.

3. Minimized Particle Loss

If your goal is a pure product, particle bleed-through is unacceptable. For critical applications, we offer welded longitudinal seams instead of standard sewn seams. This construction significantly reduces particle loss, ensuring the highest purity for your filtrate.

4. Fast Cake Drying

Moisture content is a critical metric for waste disposal and product recovery. Markert filter bags are engineered to facilitate rapid dewatering. This results in a drier filter cake, which reduces disposal weight and lowers energy costs for subsequent drying steps.

5. Extended Service Life

Frequent bag changes disrupt production and increase labor costs. We provide durable solutions, such as our ferrutex® bags for disc filters, which offer an elastic effect for better cleanability and high mechanical resistance.

Technical Durability and Materials

Industrial environments are unforgiving. Standard fabrics stretch, degrade, or fail when exposed to aggressive chemicals or high heat. Markert filter bags deliver superior resistance and dimensional stability.

We utilize advanced materials tailored to your specific operating conditions:

  • Modified Polypropylene: Ideal for Diastar filters, this material offers excellent chemical resistance and withstands maximum temperatures up to 110°C.
  • PEEK Fabrics: For extreme environments, such as those found in chemical centrifuges, we use PEEK double-layer fabrics. This material provides exceptional resistance to high temperatures and aggressive chemicals.
  • Reinforced Edges: To prevent fraying and mechanical failure, we incorporate features like PTFE side edge reinforcement.

Our specialists are here to select the right yarn and weave—monofilament, multifilament, or mono-multifilament—to match your mechanical and chemical requirements.

Industries and Applications

Our filter bag solutions are versatile. They are ideal for a variety of filtration processes, specifically the preparation, clarification, and dewatering of products across major global industries.

Mining and Minerals: We offer rugged solutions like ferrutex® for iron ore concentrate and pelletizing systems, designed to handle abrasive slurries and tailings.

Alumina Production: We provide specialized bags for Diastar and disc filters used in alumina refining, capable of handling high temperatures and caustic environments.

Food and Beverage: From sugar production to edible oils, our bags meet strict hygiene standards while ensuring high filtrate clarity and safety.

Chemical and Pharmaceutical: Our centrifuge inserts and PEEK bags resist aggressive acids and solvents, making them perfect for producing active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and fine chemicals.

We do not just sell bags; we provide solutions that solve specific production headaches. If you are looking to improve cake dryness, enhance filtrate clarity, or extend the lifespan of your media, upgrading your filter bags is the most effective step you can take.

Filter bags for Diastar filters

Thanks to production by means of our sewing robots, our Diastar filter bags offer constant and best possible fit. High throughput with simultaneous high filtrate clarity are particularly worth mentioning. Thanks to our modified polypropylene, the bags are also resistant to maximum temperature applications up to 110°C. Depending on the system type, the Markert filter bag consists of 3 – 8 channels, with neck and integrated sealing cord at the top. At the lower rim, there is a weight bar which is reusable, thanks to the removal slot.
